Synopsis

Our Adventurers confronted the Impregnable Fortress of Dib, burned it to the ground, and threw down Dib and his wrestlemaniacs! They successfully guarded the merchant caravan in to Ockney's Hold.

Caravan Leader: Mr. Barnon Graycloak

Party offered 3 gp each to guard the caravan on its way to Ockney's Hold

  • Pickbreaker and Echo walking ahead of caravan
  • Waymire on pony at the side of the caravan
  • Shiro on foot along side of the caravan

This is day 3 of the 6 day trip. In the afternoon, Pickbreaker and Echo see smoke over a rise ahead, report back to Graycloak. He asks them to investigate, but leave at least the monk back in case there is a surprise or if it is a diversion. The rest of the part proceeds toward the smoke, see that there is a cart that was struck by flaming arrows and is smoldering. Two peasants run towards them, waving, and ask for their help. They said they were told by goblins to leave their stuff and get away. They would like to be able to get back to their cart and move along.

Party sees, off to the side of the road, what looks like a fortress made out of an overturned wagon, with a flag, and covered in wood buttressing, like a mad max fortress, about 300' away

Waymire and Pickbreaker go along the road while ranger sneaks through the brush. Ranger fires an arrow, hitting the fort. The crew in the fort fires arrows at the fighter and sorc, missing. Party closes. Horse gets shot, runs off. Waymire jumps on top of the fort and attacks the fort. Shiro throws flasks of oil and lights the fort on fire. Pickbreaker stays by the road, then gets closer and attacks with mind sliver when he sees their eyes. Waymire jumps off the fort.

Burned down fortress (40hp). The see some boiling oil and a sack in the ashes, and a ladder leading down into a trench.

Party tells the peasants that they goblins are down the hole, and they can go ahead and leave. Party reports back to Graycloak. He asks if they were killed. He offers them 5 gp each to permanently take care of the situation for the Company, as it's a Company concern.

Shiro scouts for another entrance, doesn't find one.

Party, with Echo in the rear, goes down the hole. They find and trigger a trap without getting hurt, then travel around a corner with Waymire in the lead. He hears bowstrings being pulled and sees several sets of glowing eyes, hiding behind refuse and bedrolls. He steps into the room and triggers a second trap. Waymire gets hurt. They then fight the arrow-shooting and wrestling goblin clan in their dug-out cave den. Shiro and Waymire at points are grappled (the one knee-bar attempt fails :(). Pickbreaker reveals a catapult spell, launching a torch at him, but it misses. Waymire is downed during the fight, but Shiro heals him back into the fight.

Killed 5 goblins, including Dib Halfling-Chewer

A search of the janky throne reveals a wooden chest inside of the base.

  • Treasure in top of fort: 25 sp in a sack with shiny rocks
  • Treasure in cave (hidden in Dib's throne): wooden chest containing 60 sp, 15 gp, scrap of cloth with Fortress's design notes scribbled in smudged ink.

After all that, Graycloak has the caravan end the day early. They tell the story of what happened to the caravan around the campfire, the campfire is buzzing with excitement. They continue the rest of the journey without incident.

They see the river, approaching from the West. They see the near side of Ockney's Hold, the river with the island in the middle, and the keep on the far side. There are bridges from one side to the island and to the other. They see the smoke from the azurite refinery on the far bank. They pull in to Zan's Trading Emporium on the east landing of the bridge. There is a large stable and a couple of warehouses.
